36 Youths Charged in Kirinyaga Court

36 Youths charged in Kirinyaga Court. Eleven youths were arraigned at the Gichugu Law Courts on Friday. They are facing charges of malicious damage to property under Section 339(1) of the Penal Code.

The suspects identified as James Nyamu, Cyrus Githinji, Kennedy Wanjohi, Arnold Murimi, Bendan Kamau. Others include, Felix Ndichu, Solomon Muchoki, Kelvin Kamau, Bonface, Brian Mutinda, and Joseph Irungu appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Kemuma Manyura.

According to the prosecution, the group is accused of willfully and unlawfully vandalizing property at Kutus Police Station on June 25 around 5:15 p.m. Damaged items include the perimeter fence, windows of the main block. And glass panes of police line houses, with the total loss estimated at Ksh 70,000.

In a second charge, the eleven accused also arraigned for allegedly damaging a private vehicle a Nissan Vanette, registration KCZ 976N belonging to Leah Wairimu Muhari. The reported damages included a shattered windscreen worth Ksh 7,500, a broken door window valued at Ksh 3,000, and a side mirror estimated at Ksh 2,500, bringing the total cost to Ksh 13,000. 36 Youths Charged in Kirinyaga Court

All the suspects pleaded not guilty and fully represented by their lawyer, Hon. Jane Njeri Maina. Hon Jane who also serves as the Kirinyaga Woman Representative. The court released them on a cash bail of Ksh 10,000 each. The case scheduled for mention on July 11, 2025. Meanwhile, 25 more youths were arraigned at the Kerugoya Law Courts before Resident Magistrate Grace Waithera. They faced charges related to taking part in an unlawful assembly during the protests that occurred in Kerugoya town on the same day.
