Kenya Joins Global Ranks with Food Safety Certification

Kenya has taken a big step in food safety. Recently, Golden Africa Kenya Ltd (GAKL) received the FSSC 22000 certification in April 2025. As a result, Kenya now joins a few African countries with global food safety recognition.

GAKL operates from Lukenya. Notably, it is one of the few edible oil companies in Kenya with this certification. The award confirms that GAKL follows global standards in hygiene, safety, and product tracking. Previously, the company held ISO 9001:2015 certification.

GAKL announced the news on April 29, 2025. Soon after, Kenyan media covered the achievement in early May. The company makes well-known products like Pika and Avena cooking oils and Zenta and Super Saba Plus soaps. These products, in fact, are common in many Kenyan homes.

Clearly, this win shows Kenya’s progress in food quality. Furthermore, it boosts the country’s image as a safe food processor. In turn, the move opens doors to more exports and investment.

In early May, GAKL hosted a team from Malaysia. The group included government and industry officials. Together, they toured GAKL’s facilities and discussed joint projects. Currently, Malaysia supplies raw materials and expertise to GAKL.

Overall, the certification strengthens trust in Kenya’s food products. It shows the country can meet international standards. Consequently, this success could attract more investors. It also gives consumers more confidence in local goods.

With this, Kenya is now better placed to lead in food processing across East Africa. The country’s focus on quality is paying off.
