Petition Seeks to Disbar Kindiki and Murkomen. Calls for accountability continue to mount as a lawyer, Kepha Ojijo, has filed a formal petition seeking to have Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and DP Kithure Kindiki removed from the Roll of Advocates. The motion, submitted to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) on Monday. He accuses the two high ranking officials of gross misconduct and violations of the Advocates’ Code of Conduct.
Ojijo argues that during their time heading powerful security ministries Interior CS Murkomen and Kindiki oversaw police operations. Which led to widespread human rights abuses during the Gen Z-led protests in 2024 and 2025. These operations allegedly resulted in the deaths and injuries of demonstrators. Furthermore, incidents of abductions and forced disappearances of young protesters across the country.
The petition asserts that such actions are incompatible with the ethical and professional standards. By law required of advocates of the High Court of Kenya. Ojijo is urging the Law Society of Kenya to take disciplinary action. The actions include striking both leaders off the Roll of Advocates, in order to safeguard the integrity of the legal profession and uphold public trust in the justice system.
Kepha Ojijo, the advocate behind the petition, is urging the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to convene a Special General Meeting without delay. This is to allow members to deliberate and vote on whether CS Murkomen and DP Kindiki should be struck from the Roll of Advocates. As an alternative course of action, Ojijo suggests that the case be forwarded to the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal for formal inquiry and determination.
The submission
Ojijo emphasizes that individuals holding political office must maintain a clear separation from their professional obligations as advocates. “If the respondents wish to engage in politics, they should do so without wearing the hat of advocates,” . He asserts, arguing that their continued listing as members of the legal profession undermines public confidence in the independence and integrity of the Bar.
The petition emerges against the backdrop of rising public dissatisfaction with how the state has responded to recent youth-led protests. Citizens across the country, particularly members of Gen Z, have taken to the streets demanding accountability, justice, and economic reforms.Petition Seeks to Disbar Kindiki and Murkomen. In response, the government accused by local and international human rights organizations of employing excessive force. These including the use of live ammunition, arbitrary arrests, and abductions targeting peaceful demonstrators.
Ojijo’s motion reflects a broader sentiment within civil society and the legal community. That the actions of state officials should not go unchallenged, especially when they appear to conflict with the principles of justice. And also, the rule of law that underpin the legal profession. The outcome of this petition could set a significant precedent for how legal ethics are upheld in the face of political power and public controversy.
