The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has intensified its fight against sexual misconduct in schools. The commission acted against more than 100 teachers accused of abusing learners.
TSC Director of Legal, Labour and Industrial Relations, Cavin Anyuor, addressed the Senate Education Committee in Mombasa. He said the commission handled 111 cases between January and September 2024. These cases involved sexual relations with learners, molestation, pornography, and other misconduct.
He said TSC dismissed nine teachers without deregistering them. The commission suspended 25 others, who may return after serving their suspension. It also removed one intern from the register.
Evidence cleared four teachers, leading to their acquittal. Three cases were dropped after the accused died before hearings.
“Not all are guilty. Four were cleared and walked free. We remain fair but firm in protecting learners,” Anyuor stated.
TSC strengthened accountability by improving reporting systems. It introduced a toll-free hotline and email for anonymous complaints. The commission also enforces an Integrity Policy to safeguard whistleblowers.
This crackdown demonstrates TSC’s commitment to protect learners and maintain discipline in schools across the country.
