Nun Held Over Killing of Colleague in Meru

Police arrested a Catholic nun on suspicion of murdering Sister Anselimina Karimi in Meru. Sister Karimi, 65, headed Meru Children’s Home in Nkabune. Officers discovered her body inside her house on Sunday morning.

Imenti East Sub-County Police Commander Adano Abkula said DCI detectives are handling the investigation. A senior officer added that the suspect had recently arrived at the children’s home to take over Sister Karimi’s role.

However, investigators suspect the attacker killed Sister Karimi in another location and later moved her body. “We saw blood flowing from her ears, nose, and mouth,” the officer said. “She also suffered a head injury from a blunt object. Black jack seeds on her clothes indicate she was moved after the attack.”

Police established that witnesses last saw Sister Karimi at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Her phone went off an hour later and remains missing. Detectives suspect someone cleaned the house to destroy evidence.

The suspect told police she found Sister Karimi on the floor and called other nuns. They took her to Consolata Mission Hospital Nkubu, 16 kilometers away. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Family members, suspecting foul play, reported the case to Nkubu Police Station. Police revealed that Sister Karimi had warned her family about threats to her life. Detectives are now analyzing the suspect’s phone data to trace her movements and calls on the night of the murder.

The suspect will appear in court today as the investigation continues.
