West Pokot MPs Protest Secret Security Operation at Turkana Border

Lawmakers from West Pokot opposed the deployment of security officers to the Turkana border without their involvement. Pokot South MP David Pkosing and Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee said the operation threatens civilians living along the border.

Mr. Pkosing said security forces landed in Kainuk on Tuesday morning and began operations along the West Pokot Turkana boundary. He criticised the government for failing to inform local leaders and residents, calling it a betrayal of trust.

“The people of West Pokot were not consulted,” he said at a press conference in Parliament. “The officers are already conducting operations in Pokot areas.”

The MPs accused Turkana leaders of influencing the deployment. They blamed Governor Jeremiah Lomurkai, Turkana South MP John Ariko, and Turkana North MP Ekwom Nabuin for spreading false claims and inciting hostility against Pokot residents.

Mr. Pkosing urged the government to apply security measures fairly. “We support peace efforts,” he said, “but we will not allow any plan that intimidates our people or drives herders from Pokot land.”

He said the leaders have alerted both local and international media to track the operation. They urged Pokot and Turkana residents to maintain peace and warned that unfair security actions could heighten tensions in the region.
