Faith Kipyegon has done it again. On June 26, 2025, she ran the mile in 4:06.42. The race took place in Paris. This is now the fastest mile ever run by a woman.
Kipyegon aimed to run under four minutes. She used male pacemakers. She also wore high-tech running gear. At halfway, she was on track. But in the final 200 metres, she lost pace. She missed the target by six seconds.
Still, she broke her previous world record. She had set that at 4:07.64 in 2023. Her new time won’t be official. The use of male pacemakers and special conditions disqualifies it. But the attempt showed what’s possible.
Kipyegon said this was just her first try. She believes she can go faster. She plans to train more and race again.
The event resembled Kipchoge’s sub-2-hour marathon in 2019. Like him, Kipyegon had a support team. She ran in ideal weather on a fast track. Experts say this setup helped her push limits.
Kipyegon remains Kenya’s top female runner. Her speed and drive inspire many. Fans now believe a woman will soon run a sub-four-minute mile. And many think Kipyegon will be the one to do it.
