Fresh Cult Fears in Kilifi After Couple Rescued, Children Missing

Police in Kilifi have begun investigations into suspected cult activity in Chakama Forest. They rescued a couple who had gone missing from Siaya. Officers also found one body. Six children are still missing.

The couple reportedly joined a cult-like religious group. Police believe the group may be linked to the Shakahola cult. That group, led by Pastor Paul Mackenzie, caused hundreds of deaths in 2023 through forced starvation.

During the operation, police discovered four people in poor health. They may have survived the Shakahola cult. Officers arrested eleven suspects connected to the group.

Kilifi County Commissioner Josephat Biwott confirmed the ongoing investigation. He said the group appears to be reorganizing in the same area where the 2023 tragedy occurred.

Authorities urged the public to report suspicious gatherings or teachings. Police are still searching the forest for the missing children and other victims.

The recent rescue has renewed fears of a possible return of deadly cults in the region. Security teams promised continued action to stop such groups from operating.
