Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addressed the nation Yesterday. He spoke after finishing a six-week campaign tour in the United States.
Gachagua dismissed accusations of tribalism. He said those calling him a tribalist are supporters of President William Ruto. According to him, the President’s allies are using a false narrative to discredit his political standing.
During the trip, Gachagua met Kenyan diaspora communities. He held two types of meetings. Some were private talks on community issues. Others were open town halls on national matters.
Gachagua dismissed accusations that he enriched himself while in office. He insisted he had rejected bribes meant to silence him during his fallout with President William Ruto. He repeated that he turned down offers worth billions, saying his conscience would not allow betrayal of the people.
The former deputy president accused Ruto’s administration of deep corruption. He claimed the government was riddled with scandals, shady contracts, and bribery. He described Ruto as the “high priest of corruption” who manipulates state tenders and parliament.
Gachagua also alleged MPs and senators received cash to support his impeachment. He said some were given as much as Sh10 million to vote against him. He argued that this proved the government has abandoned integrity.
Throughout the interview, Okwara pressed him on his role and responsibility. Gachagua remained firm and said history would judge him fairly. He called for accountability, arguing that Kenyans deserve honest leadership free from lies and graft.
