KDF launches 2025 recruitment amid Nairobi MPs Court battle

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has officially launched its 2025 recruitment exercise, moving forward despite a court case filed by a group of Nairobi MPs opposing the process.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya confirmed that the recruitment will continue as scheduled across all counties. She said the ministry remains committed to ensuring a transparent and fair selection process for all qualified Kenyans.

Tuya emphasized that the government’s priority is to strengthen national security and give young people a chance to serve their country. She urged applicants to ignore misinformation and attend the recruitment drives only at designated centres.

“We are proceeding with the exercise as planned. Every Kenyan who qualifies will have an equal opportunity to join the Kenya Defence Forces,” Tuya said.

Meanwhile, nineteen Nairobi lawmakers have moved to court, claiming the Ministry of Defence discriminated against youth from Nairobi County. The MPs argue that the number of recruitment centres in the capital is too few compared to other regions.

They also accuse the ministry of sidelining city residents by placing most centres in rural counties, making it difficult for urban youth to access the opportunity.

Despite the legal challenge, KDF recruitment officers began the nationwide exercise early Monday morning. Thousands of hopeful young people flocked to various grounds, eager to secure a position in the military.

Tuya Defends Exercise

Tuya reiterated that all recruitment activities will follow strict guidelines to prevent corruption and favoritism. She warned applicants against paying bribes or using middlemen to influence the process.

“No one should pay a single shilling to join KDF. Anyone found demanding or offering a bribe will face immediate arrest,” she stated.

The KDF recruitment 2025 exercise runs through the month, with successful candidates expected to report for training later in the year.
