Kenya’s Harambee Stars continue to shine after battling out of the so-called “group of death” at the CAF tournament. Fish, a CAF Technical Study Group member and former South African international, praised Kenya’s grit and determination. He said the team showed resilience in Pool A against Morocco, DRC Congo, Zambia, and Angola. Harambee Stars topped the pool with three wins and one draw. They conceded only one goal.
Fish noted that Kenya advanced under very tough circumstances. In the second match against Angola, Marvin Nabwire received a red card in the 21st minute. The team played with ten men for more than seventy minutes but still fought hard. In the third game, Chris Erambo also saw red just before halftime. Minutes earlier, youngster Rayan Ogam had given Kenya the lead. “Kenya really did it the hard way,” Fish remarked, underlining their fighting spirit.
He also praised Kenyan fans for their influence. He said the passionate support gives the players extra motivation. “The fans are confident and always push the team. Kenyans now expect their team to win, and that support will be critical as the matches get tougher,” he said.
Fish highlighted coach Benni McCarthy’s energy on the touchline. He explained that McCarthy’s goal celebrations lift the players and give them belief. He also picked Rayan Ogam as one of the standout stars of the tournament. “Ogam is versatile. He scores, creates chances, and works defensively,” Fish said.
Kenya will face Madagascar in the quarterfinals tomorrow. Harambee Stars target a semifinal spot while keeping their dream of lifting the title alive.
