Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge finished 17th in the 2025 New York City Marathon. He clocked 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 36 seconds in his debut at the event. The 40 year old marathon legend faced a tough race on the hilly New York course.
Fellow Kenyan Benson Kipruto won the men’s race in 2:08:09. Alexander Mutiso and Albert Korir followed, completing a Kenyan podium sweep. The result reinforced Kenya’s dominance in global marathon running.
Kipchoge, a two-time Olympic champion and world record holder, entered the race with high hopes. The course’s sharp climbs and shifting pace proved demanding. It was one of his rare finishes outside the top 10 in a long and decorated career.
Despite the setback, Kipchoge stayed calm and humble after the race. “Every race is a lesson,” he said. “I am happy to have completed the New York Marathon. It was tough, but I’m proud to be part of it.”
In the women’s race, Hellen Obiri shone brightly. She won the title and set a new course record, leading another Kenyan podium sweep.
Kipchoge’s New York run added to his record of competing in major marathons worldwide. He has already conquered Berlin, London, Tokyo, and Chicago. His presence thrilled fans eager to watch one of the greatest runners of all time.
Though he missed the podium, Kipchoge’s endurance and sportsmanship stood out. His effort once again reflected his discipline, resilience, and love for the sport
