Police are investigating Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after two patients were murdered in the same ward. Staff found both men with slit throats, covered in blood-stained sheets.
They linked both killings to one man—known only as Kennedy Kalombotole. But no one knows who he really is. He has no ID, no relatives, and no known home.
Records show he first came to KNH in November 2022. He returned on July 28, 2023. Staff admitted him without question. They described him as a destitute man with no support. Doctors diagnosed him with diabetes and noted occasional convulsions.
Before his return to KNH, Kalombotole stayed six months at a Catholic-run shelter. Caregivers said he talked a lot and ate well. They saw no signs of illness. They later asked him to leave after he became demanding and rejected his diet.
On February 7, 2025, staff found patient Gilbert Kinyua dead in Ward 7B. They suspected Kalombotole but didn’t question him. On July 17, 2025, another patient, Edward Maingi Ndegwa, was murdered in the same way. This time, police arrested Kalombotole.
Officers took him for interrogation. In court, he spoke only to his lawyers. The court sent him to Mbagathi Hospital for a mental health assessment.
Detectives are now racing to confirm his identity. They still don’t know where he came from or why no one has claimed him.
