Leaders gave mixed views on ODM’s future during Raila Odinga’s funeral. Some supported working with President William Ruto. Others pushed the party to prepare for 2027.
Opiyo Wandayi said ODM is already in government. He urged the party to stay. He claimed Odinga left clear instructions. Gladys Wanga agreed. She said staying in government would ensure stability.
President Ruto also supported that position. He said ODM will either lead or join the next government. He warned against those who want to weaken the party.
However, some leaders disagreed. Edwin Sifuna said ODM must stay independent. He reminded mourners that Odinga urged the party to prepare for 2027. He said working in government does not mean joining the ruling coalition.
Junet Mohamed backed a coalition but with conditions. He said ODM would not join those who insulted Odinga. He called for protecting the party’s values.
The disagreement showed an internal split. One group supports working with Ruto. The other wants ODM to stand alone. Both sides claim to follow Odinga’s vision. They just interpret it differently.
The funeral became a political stage. ODM’s path to 2027 remains uncertain.
