Police in Naivasha have launched investigations after they found the body of 30-year-old Jane Wanjiru near Delamere Farm along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway. Wanjiru ran a well-known M-Pesa shop in Naivasha town.
Early Tuesday morning, passers-by discovered the body. They immediately alerted the police. Soon after, officers rushed to the scene and sealed it off. Meanwhile, DCI detectives began gathering evidence at the site.
According to the police, the attackers raped and killed her elsewhere before dumping her body by the roadside. Naivasha sub-county police boss Antony Keter explained that Wanjiru spent Sunday with friends at an entertainment spot in Gilgil. As a result, detectives are now tracking the friends for questioning.
Later, her husband, a Kenya Defence Forces officer, identified the body. Keter noted that the body had no visible injuries. Therefore, he suspects someone may have poisoned her. A post-mortem will, however, determine the exact cause of death.
Friends described Wanjiru as humble, hardworking, and cheerful. In fact, one friend said she was last seen at a salon in Naivasha. She had gone to plait her hair. While there, she received several calls from someone asking to meet her. Shortly after, she left to meet the caller and never returned.
“We plead with the police to conduct speedy investigations,” the friend said.
Meanwhile, Naivasha GBV cluster chairperson John Kinuthia raised concern over the rise in femicide cases. He said at least four women have died in similar attacks in the past five months.
“We are worried by the increasing murders targeting women. Most victims are in their mid-30s,” he said.
In response, police have assured the public that they are actively investigating the case.
