Machakos County Assembly members have revived plans to remove Speaker Ann Kiusya. A recent High Court ruling cleared the way for a fresh impeachment process. Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka is leading the motion. He plans to forward it to the House Business Committee before tabling it in the Assembly.
MCAs accuse Speaker Kiusya of conflict of interest. They claim she presided over discussions about her own impeachment. Earlier, a similar motion failed. The court ruled it was filed prematurely. This decision now gives MCAs legal grounds to restart the process.
Political tension remains high. A nominated MCA recently withdrew support for the motion. This move aimed to reduce friction among members. In April, the Assembly rejected an earlier impeachment attempt. Later, nine MCAs were suspended over misconduct and absenteeism.
The battle over Speaker Kiusya’s position continues as MCAs prepare for the next session.
