The Makueni County Government has fired a nurse from Kee Level 3 Hospital in Kaiti Sub-County for misconduct.
In a letter dated October 22, 2025, Kaiti Sub-County Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Philip Maiko, announced the decision. He instructed the nurse, identified as Nicodemus, to hand over all duties and clear from the facility immediately.
The decision came after reports that the nurse sent a threatening text message to a patient. The nurse allegedly ordered the patient to buy medicine from a specific chemist he preferred. When the patient refused, he issued threats.
Following the incident, the patient quickly reported the matter to the Sub-County Health Office. The complaint triggered an internal investigation, and the findings confirmed the misconduct. As a result, the health department moved swiftly to terminate the nurse’s contract.
“I hereby write to provide an official notification of termination of your contract as a registered nurse with Kaiti Sub-County,” Dr. Maiko wrote in the letter.
Dr. Maiko emphasized that the dismissal takes effect on Friday, October 24, 2025. He also directed the nurse to complete the handover process to the officer in charge of Kee Health Centre before departure.
Despite the misconduct, Dr. Maiko appreciated the nurse for his past service and commitment to the hospital.
He also copied the termination letter to the Chief Officer of Health Human Resource Management and Administration, the Director of Health Planning, and the Facility in Charge at Kee Health Centre to ensure accountability and transparency in the process.
