Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged Kenyans to report bribery during police recruitment. He warned that anyone who offers or accepts a bribe will face arrest and prosecution.
Murkomen said the government wants a fair and transparent process. He stressed that recruitment must depend on merit, not money. “No one should buy their way into the service,” he said. He encouraged Kenyans to record and report anyone demanding payment for a police position.
He announced new rules to curb corruption. Recruitment will end by 4 p.m. to stop manipulation. Medical tests will not be done at recruitment centres to prevent fake medical letters. Community, religious, and civil society leaders will help monitor the process to ensure fairness.
Murkomen urged Kenyans to act as watchdogs and expose corrupt officers. He promised quick action against anyone involved in bribery. “We will also not tolerate officers who exploit job seekers,” he said.
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has also promised a transparent and digital process. It plans to use technology to track irregularities and reduce human interference.
Murkomen said corruption weakens the country’s security system. He also noted that those who pay for jobs often lack integrity and discipline. “We want honest officers who will protect Kenyans, not those who buy uniforms,” he added.
He urged Kenyans to stay alert, refuse to pay bribes, and report any wrongdoing to the nearest police station or official hotlines.
