Nairobi City Marathon: Road Closures Set for Sunday, July 6

Nairobi will host the Nairobi City Marathon on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Thousands of runners might flood city streets for the major sporting event.

Police have announced road closures to ensure safety. Key roads will remain closed from 4:00 a.m. until midday when the marathon will be halfway. Affected roads include Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, Lang’ata Road, Kenyatta Avenue, and Haile Selassie Avenue. Some parts of the Central Business District will also close.

Traffic officers and marshals will manage movement at key junctions. Drivers should avoid closed roads and use alternative routes. Travelers heading to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport must plan ahead. Matatus and other public vehicles will follow new routes. PSV operators have received the new instructions. Commuters should expect delays and possible walking distances.

Pedestrians must stay away from the race path. Police urge the public to follow directions. Security teams will be on standby along the route. The marathon will feature both local and foreign athletes. Organizers aim to promote fitness, tourism, and the city’s sporting culture. Medical teams will also be ready to respond to emergencies. Officials have promised a well-managed and secure event.

Residents are encouraged to cheer for the runners. However, they must remain alert to the temporary changes. By early afternoon, most roads will reopen. The city is expected to return to normal shortly after the event ends. Motorists, pedestrians, and commuters must stay informed. Authorities ask for public cooperation to ensure safety.

The Nairobi City Marathon remains a key event on the athletics calendar. Organizers hope for high attendance and smooth operations throughout the day.
