NEMA boss arrested in Ksh.25K bribery scandal

NEMA boss arrested in Ksh.25K bribery scandal. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Bomet County’s NEMA Director, Samuel Kariuki Ngaanga, over a bribery scandal involving Ksh.25,000.

According to EACC, Ngaanga demanded the money from a lodging facility owner in Mulot. In return, he promised to let the business continue operating without an Effluent Discharge License and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.

The complainant reported the matter to EACC earlier in the week. After verifying the claims, the commission set up a sting operation.

EACC officers caught Ngaanga red-handed in Bomet town while receiving the bribe. They immediately arrested him and escorted him to Bomet Police Station.

At the station, investigators interviewed him and recorded his statement. He was booked for soliciting and receiving a bribe.

Authorities later released him on a Ksh.30,000 cash bail as investigations continue.

EACC confirmed that the inquiry is still ongoing and further action will follow once the probe is complete.

The anti-graft agency has urged the public to report similar cases. They emphasized that corrupt officials will face swift action, no matter their position.

This arrest highlights the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and upholding environmental laws.

Business owners are reminded to follow proper licensing procedures and resist unlawful demands.

EACC continues to conduct regular surveillance across counties to weed out corruption and protect public interest.
