New IEBC Boss Pledges Free and Fair Polls

New IEBC Boss Pledges Free and Fair Polls. IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon has pledged to serve with integrity and protect the interests of all Kenyans. He promised to ensure every vote counts in future elections.

Speaking at the Supreme Court after his swearing-in, Ethekon emphasized the importance of free and credible elections. He said such elections are the backbone of any democracy.

Ethekon takes office at a critical moment for the country. He urged Kenyans to use their votes to build a peaceful and stable democracy.

New IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon has pledged to deliver free, fair, and credible elections. In addition, he emphasized that fair elections form the backbone of Kenya’s democracy and reaffirmed the IEBC’s duty to uphold the voice of every citizen.

After taking the oath of office at the Supreme Court, Ethekon made his commitment clear. “My loyalty lies with the People of Kenya, who hold sovereign power under Article 1 of the Constitution,” he said. “Let’s use this opportunity to build a peaceful, stable, and secure democracy.”

Misinformation Threat

As he stepped into his new role, Ethekon addressed the challenges previous commissions have faced. Consequently, he pointed to the rising threat of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation warning that such content could throw the nation into turmoil.

Above all, to counter these risks, Ethekon called for stronger partnerships with the media. “We must work closely with news outlets to educate the public and share factual, accurate information,” he noted.

Turning to the electoral calendar, Ethekon urged all Kenyans and stakeholders to unite in preparing for peaceful and transparent elections. “Delivering credible elections is not just the IEBC’s responsibility—it’s a collective duty,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Ethekon now leads a newly reconstituted commission, which includes Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah.

This new leadership comes at a crucial moment, as Kenya prepares for upcoming by-elections and lays the groundwork for the 2027 General Election. However, Ethekon and his team are expected to steer the commission with integrity and renewed public trust.
