Police in Nyamira County are hunting a man accused of murdering his girlfriend. They say he buried her body in a shallow grave.
The victim, Faith Kemunto, 20, went missing on July 30, 2025. She was last seen heading to Maosi village, where her boyfriend, Gideon Makori, lived. Both had been preparing to join Machakos University this year.
Investigators believe Makori lured Faith to his parents’ home that evening. When she failed to return home, her family reported her missing.
Detectives traced her phone’s last signal to Makori’s home. They also found her shoes there.
The case turned darker when Makori allegedly sent Faith’s family a text. He reportedly revealed where he had buried her.
Police rushed to the home and discovered a freshly dug shallow grave in the compound.
Nyamira South Police boss Joel Simiyu said they are seeking a court order to exhume the body. He added that a postmortem will follow.
“The suspect is on the run,” Simiyu said. “We are following strong leads to arrest him.”
Faith’s family described her as bright and full of ambition. They said she had a promising future before her life was cut short.
Shocked residents of Maosi village have condemned the killing. They are calling for swift justice. Makori remains at large as the manhunt continues. Authorities urge anyone with information to report to the nearest police station.
The body is still at the scene as legal processes for exhumation continue. The incident has raised concern over cases of partner violence.
Community leaders are urging young people to resolve disputes peacefully.
