President William Ruto and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen have called on Kenyans to maintain peace during the planned June 25 demonstrations.
Ruto issued the warning at State House during a breakfast meeting with Police FC. He cautioned against disrupting peace and normal life. The President urged citizens to respect law enforcement and reminded them that no one is above the law.
“You cannot insult, threaten, or intimidate the police,” he said. “That is a threat to the nation. These are our frontline defenders.”
He also praised the police service as highly professional. Ruto asked the public to support officers in their duties. He stressed the importance of allowing police to work without interference.
Murkomen echoed the President’s message. He noted that Kenyans enjoy greater freedom than citizens in many other countries. According to him, people share strong views online without fear of arrest.
He gave examples from other nations. “In the UK or US, anyone who threatens to storm State House or the White House would be arrested from home,” he said. “Only in Kenya can such statements go unpunished.”
Murkomen commended the police for staying professional despite political pressure. He acknowledged the difficult environment officers work in. He encouraged them to uphold their code of conduct to help preserve peace.
Meanwhile, youth leaders organizing the protests said they will honour victims of police brutality. They plan to remember those who died during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.
