Riggy G Comedian KK Mwenyewe Dies. Kenyan comedian and satirist KK Mwenyewe, real name Zachariah Kariuki, has died following a short illness. He passed away on Monday night at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital, according to fellow comedian and close friend Kafengo.
Kafengo shared an emotional tribute, writing, “Rest in peace brother. You’ll forever be in our hearts. May God give strength to your family and friends during this tough time.”
KK Mwenyewe gained fame in late 2022 for his spot-on impersonations of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. His comedic timing, voice mimicry, and deep political satire quickly made him a viral sensation.
As his popularity grew, many hoped DP Gachagua would recognize him especially after publicly supporting Ivy Chelimo, the student who coined the nickname “Riggy G.” However, KK later revealed in an interview with Jeff Kuria that no such support ever came.
Despite this, he continued to create. In recent months, KK shifted from political skits to broader content, collaborating with fellow creators like Cashina Ke and experimenting with new formats. His final video, a humorous employment skit, was posted on July 4.
Heartfelt Tributes
Leaders and fans alike have expressed grief. Senator Okiya Omtatah described KK as a brave voice who used comedy to inspire unity, calling him “a cultural commentator and young patriot.” Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro also mourned the loss, praising KK’s creativity and authenticity.
TikTok personality Sholla Ard questioned the growing trend of “short illnesses and sudden deaths,” while poet Willie Oeba said, “The leaders of tomorrow are dying today.”
KK Mwenyewe, a Kisii University alumnus, leaves behind a massive digital footprint, including 1 million TikTok followers and over 19 million likes. His talent, courage, and legacy will continue to inspire Kenya’s creative community.
