On September 22, 2025, Samuel Kamau (SK) Macharia allegedly stormed Directline Assurance’s offices at Hazina Towers, Nairobi. He kicked out CEO Sammy Kanyi and the entire board, then installed a new team.
Court documents state Macharia broke into the principal officer’s office on the 19th floor during the takeover. His actions allegedly defied a court order issued on October 4, 2024, which barred him from interfering with the company’s management.
Kanyi condemned the move as illegal. He said Macharia’s actions disrupted operations and endangered policyholders and the public.
High Court Judge Francis Gikonyo certified the case as urgent. He scheduled the hearing for December 13, 2025, and warned both sides to obey the court orders.
“The application is based on contempt of court and is certified urgent,” Justice Gikonyo said.
Kanyi urged the court to jail Macharia for contempt. He also asked the court to order police to remove Macharia’s appointees and reinstate the ousted management team.
Directline, a leading PSV insurance provider, remains vulnerable after the takeover. The court will decide if Macharia’s actions amount to contempt and whether he should face jail time.
