Wanyonyi Leds Kenyan squad for Monaco Diamond League. Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi is ready to shine tonight at the Herculis Diamond League in Monaco, France.
The men’s 800m promises a thrilling battle. Wanyonyi comes in hot after two Diamond League wins, including a world-leading 1:41.95 in Stockholm. He’ll face strong opponents, including Olympic silver medallist Marco Arop (Canada) and bronze winner Djamel Sedjati (Algeria).
Other top contenders include Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela, Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui, and France’s Gabriel Tual. The high-stakes race starts at 9:23 p.m. and may run at world-record pace.
At 9:34 p.m., the men’s 3000m steeplechase will follow. Kenya’s Edmund Serem, the World U20 champion, and Olympic bronze medalist Abraham Kibiwot will take on Morocco’s Olympic gold medalists Soufiane El Bakkali and Ethiopia’s Samuel Firewu.
Nine minutes later, at 9:43 p.m., world 800m champion Mary Moraa teams up with Nelly Chepchirchir in the rarely-run 1000m.
Kenya’s final event of the night comes at 10:05 p.m. Jacob Krop, the 2022 World silver medalist, will represent the country in the men’s 5000m. He faces tough competition from Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha, Hagos Gebrhiwet, and Haile Bekele, along with Bahrain’s Birhanu Ballew.
