Winnie Odinga delivered a heartfelt tribute to her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, during his State funeral at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
She described Raila’s final days in India as peaceful and dignified, saying he remained strong until the very end.
“I was with him in India when he took his last breath,” Winnie said. “He died in my arms, not as people have been claiming on social media. Every morning he would wake up, walk one round, then two the next day. On that final morning, he managed five rounds. He died strong, with dignity and pride.”
Her emotional words moved mourners across the stadium, painting a picture of a leader who faced his final moments with courage and grace. Winnie said her father’s strength in life and in death reflected the same determination that defined his political journey.
She reminded Kenyans to live with confidence and dignity the same values Raila embodied throughout his decades of public service.
“You must walk with your heads held high. Be strong and proud because he left as a gentleman,” Winnie urged.
Throughout her tribute, Winnie reflected on her father’s influence on both family and country. She spoke of the lessons he taught resilience, patriotism, and humility saying his legacy will continue to inspire generations.
The moving speech capped an emotional farewell ceremony attended by thousands, including national leaders and dignitaries from across the region.
Raila Odinga’s passing marked the end of a long chapter in Kenya’s political history, but his ideals of unity, justice, and courage continue to live on through his family and supporters.
