Princess Zahra Aga Khan is a Swiss‑born philanthropist and global development leader. As the eldest daughter of the late Aga Khan IV, the hereditary leader of the Nizari Ismaili Muslim community, she has become a prominent figure in international development. Within the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), she holds senior leadership roles, guiding programmes in health, education, and social and economic development across Africa and beyond. In addition, she serves as Pro‑Chancellor of the Aga Khan University and sits on multiple boards within the network.

During the State House investiture ceremony in Nairobi, President Ruto praised her for her dedication to improving lives and strengthening development partnerships in Kenya. Princess Zahra thanked the President and acknowledged the Ismaili community’s presence in Kenya for over 100 years, noting their contributions to the country’s social and economic development. The honour reflects both her personal contributions and the broader legacy of AKDN in Kenya. It recognises decades of work that have transformed communities and built lasting institutions.
